Connect with nature, with others, and with yourself.
Getting outside can be a powerful reset. The Hill offers an alternative to the everyday hustle that is not screen or substance based. A hub for recreation, wellness, and culture, it provides exposure to the natural elements to build skills and resilience. Interact with your environment to support mental and physical health. Get involved or just enjoy the outdoors.

This is Something Different
People need nature to thrive.
Most land is held in ownership or government preservation. Unless you can afford to buy property or take time off, it can be challenging to find outdoor space you can participate in.
The Hill is a free, privately owned local greenspace. It is a pilot land stewardship project operating as a benefit company (see the about page to learn more).
Castlegar is home to outstanding outdoor spaces like Millennium Park. It has beautiful hiking trails (check these out!). Unlike other local trails or parks, The Hill is also an open community canvas. It’s a grassroots initiative that encourages collaboration with societies, artists, educators, local businesses, and outdoor enthusiasts who share common values.
The Hill acts as a bridge to feel comfortable and gain skills to navigate more remote backcountry. It requires self-awareness. It is imperfect. Natural hazards are mitigated for but outdoor learning comes with unavoidable uncertainty. This may or may not be your thing, please thoroughly read and consider the waiver. Stay on the paths for safety and conservation purposes.
Want to create an art installation? Community garden or memorial? Use The Hill for education or to advertise for your local business? Help build or donate supplies?
Right on! Reach out or submit a proposal.
Some submissions get answered fast. Others take the scenic route.
Proposals are accepted on a rolling basis to avoid crowding and stay true to our conservation roots.
If you haven’t heard back and it feels like forever, it doesn’t mean your idea is dead. It might just be composting.
